Moss Landing Marine Laboratories
Moss Landing Marine Laboratories is a research facility on the coast of Monterey Bay located roughly 60 miles southwest of San José. MLML is a San José State University-led consortium of marine sciences research and study located in Moss Landing, California
The Monterey Submarine Canyon, the largest such feature on the west coast of North America, begins within a few hundred meters of the Moss Landing harbor and the MLML research fleet. To the east is the Elkhorn Slough, the largest tract of tidal salt marsh in California, and to the north and south are sand dunes, sandy beaches, and kelp forest habitats along the rocky shoreline. In addition to MLML, Moss Landing is also home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI).
